Amorphyx commercializes innovations in the mechanisms of thin film electronics for performance, manufacturability and cost improvements driven by the demands for manufacturing the new generation of electronics – Fast, Flexible and Simple.

Amorphyx has developed 5 proprietary electronics device and circuit platforms for leveraging materials-level improvements in the advancement of thin film electronic device performance, manufacturability and cost. The company has been granted or applied for over 50 fundamental device and circuit patents in the US and major electronics manufacturing centers of East Asia.

In 2017, Amorphyx collaborated with the world’s largest display manufacturer - China’s BOE - to produce the world’s first display using a quantum tunneling backplane. No semiconductors, simplified manufacturing, best-in-class switching speed, and flexible materials system. The future of displays: Fast. Flexible. Simple.

Amorphyx operates a fabless R&D model, licensing IP products into Tier 1 display manufacturers for consumer electronics.

We focus initially on the premium performance segments of the existing flat panel display market. We integrate our materials, electronic device and circuit technologies with the customer’s existing LCD, AMOLED or microLED display backplane manufacturing facilities to create new, high-profit image quality-focused display products for smartphones, tablets, gaming monitors and TVs.

Amorphyx then builds on the learnings from flat-panel display manufacturing to partner with flexible display manufacturers to deliver flat-panel performance, cost and manufacturability to flexible substrates.

After validating our patented advances in thin film electronic device manufacturing in the display industry, we extend into the fabrication of high-performance analog/RF/mixed-signal integrated circuits for wearable electronics, on-body medical sensors, and more generally the Internet of Things.

Our technologies for thin film electronics integrate existing amorphous metals, semiconductor and oxides with existing mass production thin film deposition equipment and techniques to enable the next generation of small-to-medium-scale integrated circuit performance and manufacturability at new lows for capital expense.

Performance-oriented displays for consumer electronics are the world’s single largest opportunity for high-performance thin film electronic devices. Amorphyx’s technologies enable the mass production of premium image quality displays with greatly reduced power consumption in today’s flat-panel display industry. The inherently strong and flexible nature of amorphous metals raises flexible displays to a new level of mass production. Amorphyx’s patented quantum tunneling replacements for semiconductor devices brings thin films into emerging flexible high-performance RF/analog/mixed-signal and microprocessor integrated circuit manufacturing.

about us

Amorphyx was born from basic research at Oregon State University into the use of amorphous metals in facilitating quantum tunneling conduction in thin film electronics devices. We are a group of materials scientists, chemical and electrical engineers focused on expanding the use of thin film electronics in integrated circuit manufacturing through the combination of new materials science and electronic conduction techniques.
